ASAC WebReport

April 2000

ACCOMPLISHED

1) ASAC members rotate chairing meetings/Phil Sterry will take minutes and draft agenda for meetings

 2) ASAC WebReport will now be a monthly feature of News & Updates on the 'OLELO website @ http://www.olelo.org/news/news.html

3) A Tapes Grant trial is to be brought before the Board by the Program Committee at the April 26 meeting for final go-ahead . If approved by the 'OLELO Board, this will be a program where one free tape will be issued per month, per producer/presenter when they turn in a premiere production* a 30-minute tape for a 30-min. premiere production/a 1-hour tape for a 1-hour or longer premiere production.

There would be a one-tape-per-month limit to each individual producer/presenter. And there would be a trial period to test the viability and expense of this tapes grant and would last for three (03) months or until a $25,000 limit is reached--whichever would occur first.

 4) Promos are beginning to be generated and presented for community- generated programs.

 5) Strict attention is now being paid to correct program submissions to newspaper TV section.

 6) Sunday Evening scheduling of Media Center to be re-continued as soon as new staff brought on board from newspaper ads currently soliciting for new staff.

 7) 'OLELO'S Website programming guide will have current week's and the next week's program listings.

ACTION ITEMS

1) Computerized Teleprompters for the three (03) Mapunapuna Studio cameras plus, possibly, the one (01) in the Oahu Speaks mini-studio.

 2) Better preemption notification and with rescheduling notices on TV/discussed every fifteen minutes having a footer with a screen crawl preemption notification and reschedule.

PROJECTS IN THE WORKS

1) Development of a systematic plan to specifically identify the problems causing degeneration of broadcast quality.

 2) ASAC Goals 2000-- determine short* and long-term goals and prioritize them.

DISCUSSED

1) Possibility of changing by-laws to have an elected ASAC member sit on the 'OLELO board.

 2) Suggestion made that maximum communication be achieved with the user community and with potential-user viewers though total transparency by having the 'OLELO board meetings televised... And who would volunteer to do the cameras, floor direct, edit, etc.? Also a suggestion that user and public concerns be presented at the beginning of each board meeting for three (03) minutes each* like the Board of Education does... So working people with family and other obligations don't have to sit through an entire board meeting in order to come air their particular concerns...

 3) Other possible uses of the $50,000.00 user grant fund, part of which will now go, on a trial basis, to tape grants*if approved by the Board at the April 26 meeting?

 4) Ways that ASAC can communicate better with users (who elect them) in addition to the new monthly ASAC WebReport and on the Lokahi Room bulletin board... There is already an ASAC Suggestion Box/Feedback form in the News & Updates section of the 'OLELO website.

 5) Short discussion about digital edit technology and having software, etc. that is compatible with both Mac and PC computer systems... firewire, Final Cuts Pro, Adobe Premiere, Pinnacle systems, Avid,... etc. were mentioned...
