Temperature in edit bays
Can the edit bay temperature be raised:
|
The temperature in the edit bays are consistent with manufacturer
specifications for the equipment.
`Olelo will not make the modification identified for reconfiguring the air conditioning (AC) ducts. It is not cost effective to make such modifications, and directing the AC ducts would create condensation which would be damaging to the equipment. |

| Kit Kawamata | Provide alternatives to Hi8 tape selections
Industrial tape we require is too expensive, can clients not be required to use that particular tape?
|
Clients are required to use particular tape because of the impact certain types of tape have on the equipment. A list of the allowable tapes is available in the resource room. Primarily, consumer Hi8 tapes are not allowable. These required formats are necessary to maintain consistent alignment to minimize performance problems with the Hi8 VCRs. |

| Your Community Project Manager and | Mentoring System
Better mentoring system for 1st time users with new project |
The Community Project Managers along with the Media Education Specialist (Angela) are looking to incorporate mentoring into volunteer networking opportunities. Client participation in the volunteer networking events will help to provide such opportunities. `Olelo is also looking to develop one evening a week where the production equipment/facilities are available for practice purposes. Allowing recently trained clients an opportunity to practice on the equipment outside of the classroom environment. This needs to be balanced with ensuring adequate availability for use by those already certified. |

| Your Community Project Manager | Customer Service
Would like better customer service in Facilities
|
The `Olelo staff are here to help. Staff can only help individuals based on knowing what is needed. If you have a specific need that is not being met, Community Project Managers are the best staff to contact. You may also contact Keali`i López, Director of Client Services, if you have concerns about the service and treatment you may receive from staff. The staff work very hard at trying to meet all of the diverse needs of clients, any constructive feedback on how we can improve the quality of our service is greatly appreciated. |
|
| Your Community Project Manager | Easy way to contact Community Project Manager | Community Project Managers have varying work schedules primarily
due to their staffing the production facilities which are open seven days
a week, for twelve hours Monday through Saturday, eight on Sunday, and
are also situated at the Satellite Center at Leeward Community College
on Saturday and Sunday. Therefore, they do no work a standard business
work week. This can make it difficult to get a hold of them, as they may
have a day off during the week, or working an evening shift in facilities.
The Community Project Managers are leaving detailed messages on their voice mail to keep clients better informed of their availability. A Community Project Manager is available in Facilities at most all times to assist with any 48 hour reservations of equipment. For advance equipment reservations, if you do not reach your Community Project Manager, leave a detailed voice mail message including: * your name, you must be the producer on record for the project for which you are making the reservation * the title of the project for which you are making the reservation * the equipment you want to reserve * the date(s ) and time(s) that would work for you (provide several options), include pick-up and drop-off times for field units * a call back telephone number Once your Community Project Manager follows up with you regarding the reservation made, it is important that you confirm with him/her about the reservation. |

| Everyone | Acronyms
Get away from using acronyms like CPM, CPA, MRT, etc. |
It is often easier to use acronyms to communicate, and at
times not as effective. Technology in particular is an area where very
long descriptive terms are abbreviated to an acronym. Some of the common
acronyms used at `Olelo are:
CPM - Community Project Manager (Junior, Nalani, Julianne, Dave, Ku`uipo, Len) CPA - Community Project Associate (Novelynn, Jason, Tammy, Kristie) MRT - Media Resource Technician (Tom, Jimmy, Edgar) MES - Media Education Specialist (Angela) |

Contact your Community Project Manager to sign up for a class or identify areas that you would like to see refresher and advanced courses. The areas of refresher and advanced training will be offered based on the broad need for such training. |

| Kit Kawamata | Broadcast quality
|
There are many technical variables that effect the quality
of signal one receives in their home. One prevalent problem is where individuals
use consumer video splitters at home to split the cable feed between two
more television sets in the home.
Oceanic Cable has reviewed `Olelo's transmission signals and any necessary adjustments have been made. The quality of the `Olelo channel's has been confirmed as an appropriate quality of signal distribution. This can be affected if the signal of individual programs is inadequate. Producers are responsible for technically screening his/her program to ensure it meets the required technical specifications for a quality playback. If there are technical problems during a cablecast, you may call extension 154, and the Playback Technician will be able to hear your concern, and will work on the problem. This extension is a one way speaker line. Additionally, during the hours that facilities are open, you can contact the staff in Facilities at extension 140 and make the staff aware of your concern, and they will work to address you concern. |

Increase/regain viewership
Producers documented drop in viewership, need to do something about it
|
As part of the '98 planning and budget process, staff is recommending an advertising budget to promote the channels, programming blocks, and other information. Staff also intends to increase its channel publicity to promote via upaid means the same services mentioned above. A standing request has been forwarded to Oceanic Cable to 1) keep the five access channels together (consecutively), and 2) to keep the channels as low in the system as is possible. All materials that 'Olelo generates will list program titles or blocks
(when titles are not available.
On-channels informational pieces were created this year to educate viewers on access. Participation in community events for outreach and promotion purposes is already a common practice for 'Olelo. Advertising on other channels is not viable due to cost prohibitions. |

Playback errors
more accuracy in playback
|
Like the technical quality of programs discussed previously,
the actual cablecast of a program can be impacted by many variables, some
of which are human error. This matter is being addressed and clients should
see improvement very soon. In our effort to address this problem, `Olelo
is adding 2.5 positions to assist in addressing the work load required
to manage all the programs being cablecast on the five cable access channels.
We will also be working hard to limit the variables that can result in
a potential problem with accurate cablecast, which will result in programs
being turned away that are not accurately labeled.
Some ways you can help is to ensure that your program is cablecast accurately is to label your tape and provide as much information as possible: Program Title Your First and Last Name Contact Telephone Number Your Community Project Manager's Name Cablecast Dates (Primarily first and last scheduled cablecast dates) Program Length |
